right to read

Independence Primary School students wrapped up an exciting and successful 2025 Right-to-Read Week, celebrating their love of books through engaging activities, themed dress-up days, and special guest readers. The week, which ran from February 24 to February 28, encouraged students to "Get Their Ticket to Read" by logging reading time and participating in daily prize drawings.

Throughout the week, students eagerly filled out verification slips for every book read or 20-minute reading session completed, helping to fill grade-level collection boxes in the school lobby. With each slip, they not only advanced their reading skills but also increased their chances of winning fun prizes.

Adding to the excitement, special Celebrity Readers visited classrooms to share their favorite stories, inspiring students to continue their reading journeys. Themed dress-up days brought extra enthusiasm, with students donning activewear for “Reading Exercises Your Brain” and colorful outfits for “Reading Makes Life More Colorful.” The celebration ended on a cozy note with “Reading Is Relaxing,” as students wore pajamas and comfy clothes to school.

“While the week was filled with fun, the primary goal remained clear—to foster a love of reading and encourage students to explore new books,” said Principal TJ Ebert. “With strong participation from students, staff, and families, Right-to-Read Week was a memorable event, reinforcing the importance of literacy in a lively and engaging way.” Special thanks to those in our school, civic and business leaders who volunteered to read their favorite childhood books to the IPS students as Celebrity Readers.
