
We are so excited to welcome our new students, returning students, and staff for the 2023-24 school year. There are so many great and memorable activities planned for the entire IMS community in the weeks and months ahead. Listed below is important information to hopefully lessen the stress as the first day of school gets closer.

Our Music Department is collecting shoes! Any shoes (infant, toddler, child or adult!) will help them reach their fundraising goal. They are happy to arrange pickup or drop off will be available at the civic center, at homedays or at the high/middle schools!

IMS Junior Bio Club enjoyed nature at the Land Lab on Thursday.


IMS 6th Graders visited the Art Museum, West Side Market and Mitchell’s Ice Cream Shop… a cultural experience and some sweet treats! A special thank you to the parent chaperones who helped make the trip a great memory for the kids.











IMS 7th Graders were up and off to Michigan this morning! Everyone has been enjoying this beautiful day and wonderful experience. Great job 7th graders!










5th Graders had a great time cooking with their solar ovens! Students experimented with making different style ovens using concepts learned in science...absorption, greenhouse effect, and light converting to heat resulted in a delicious snack of hotdogs, chicken nuggets and s'mores. Special thanks to Mr. Vanek and Mrs. Basnett for supporting our educational picnic!

Out Of Darkness Walk, Saturday, May 13.
Please join us for the Out of Darkness Walk on Saturday, May 13, from 11 -2 at IHS. We will be walking from Independence High School, around Elmwood Park, and back to IHS. There will be food, music, and activities, all to help raise funds and awareness for suicide prevention. The IMS choir delivered an amazing performance at the district choir concert this week! A remarkable ensemble of 160 students in grades 3-12 performed in their separate ensembles before uniting for an all-district finale! Terrific performances by all! #iPride





In today's Lunch and Learn session held at IMS, Jeffrey Woytach, a NASA engineer, took center stage to share his experiences working at NASA. His presentation also sparked a galaxy of possibilities, inspiring students to reach for the stars in their own future engineering careers.






Last night we celebrated the music making! 💙🎶💛 Congratulations to all the members of the Music Department, all our soloists, small ensembles, student leadership, our new Tri-M Music Honorary members and Sydney, the recipient of this year’s National School Choral Award! Shout out to Tri-M for serving dinner, the Music Boosters for handling the food and all who helped set up and clean up!! What a night!!
