The power of community spirit was on full display at Independence Local Schools this holiday season! What started as a simple Facebook suggestion from a thoughtful parent in early December transformed into an incredible show of appreciation for our dedicated bus drivers.
Recognizing the extraordinary efforts of our transportation team - especially during challenging times with driver shortages and schedule adjustments - families came together to show their gratitude in a meaningful way. The response was overwhelming: in just a few short weeks, our amazing Independence families raised nearly $2,000!
Each driver received a $100 Target gift card along with a beautiful handmade ornament for 2024, symbolizing the families’ appreciation. The transportation department also received a $100 gift certificate to Romito's for a well-deserved team lunch.
Transportation Supervisor Francine Kane shared that the drivers were truly touched by this display of community support. As Bus 5 driver Pamela Zakraysek put it, "We really do have the best families!"
This heartwarming initiative perfectly captures what makes our Independence community special - coming together to support those who take care of our children every day, ensuring their safe journey to and from school through all kinds of weather and circumstances.
Thank you to all who contributed and to our amazing bus drivers who do so much for our students. Your dedication doesn't go unnoticed! 🚌💝 #ThankYouBusDrivers #ThankYouIndyFamilies
