Stephen Mlynarczyk is proving that career paths can run in the family. A junior at Independence High School, Stephen is currently enrolled in the Electrical Systems program at Cuyahoga Valley Career Center (CVCC), where he is not just learning a trade, but continuing a family legacy.

With roots deeply embedded in the electrical industry, Stephen comes from a family of electricians. His grandfather's stories about the trade sparked an early interest, and now he's gaining hands-on experience through both his family business and the CVCC program taught by instructor Joseph McNamee.

"There will always be job opportunities in electrical work since wiring is always in demand," Stephen confidently states, reflecting the program's practical approach to education. Beyond technical skills, he particularly appreciates McNamee's comprehensive teaching style, which includes practical life lessons like money management - topics rarely covered in traditional classrooms.

The program has been more than just technical training for Stephen. He's found joy in working with numbers, especially when studying Ohm's Law, which explains the intricate relationship between voltage, current, and resistance in electrical circuits. Recently, he had the opportunity to shadow at his family's electrical business, an experience he found both enjoyable and rewarding.

While pursuing his electrical education, Stephen remains active in high school sports, participating in both football and track & field at Independence High School. His long-term goal is to complete an apprenticeship and eventually work at his family's electrical company.

For students considering similar paths, Stephen offers encouraging advice: take advantage of the opportunities provided by programs like the one at CVCC. With his passion, family background, and hands-on training, he is well on his way to building a promising future in the electrical industry.

The Cuyahoga Valley Career Center continues to provide valuable vocational training for students like Stephen, preparing them for successful careers in technical fields.
