Independence High School junior Tevin Cullison is making strides in the medical field through the Health Careers program at Cuyahoga Valley Career Center (CVCC). Under the guidance of instructor Patty Valukievic, Tevin is gaining valuable hands-on experience while working toward a future in medicine.
Initially torn between CVCC’s Health Careers and Fire & EMS Academy programs, Tevin ultimately chose Health Careers due to a strong passion for patient care and personal connections. Looking ahead, Tevin plans to attend university to pursue a career in pediatrics, with interests in pediatric oncology and medical examining.
The experience at CVCC has boosted Tevin’s confidence, providing a fresh learning environment beyond the traditional high school setting. “You have to put in the work, but being at CVCC is so fun, and meeting students from different school districts has been really enjoyable,” Tevin shared.
In addition to excelling academically, Tevin is involved in multiple extracurricular activities. As a member of the National Technical Honor Society and HOSA (Future Health Professionals), Tevin recently placed second in the Creative Problem Solving team competition, securing a spot at the HOSA State Conference in April.
Balancing academics and extracurriculars, Tevin also plays tuba in the band, competes on the swim team, and participates in the pit orchestra for The Sound of Music. Additionally, Tevin works as a lifeguard and continues seeking opportunities to grow in the medical field.
With dedication and passion driving every step, Tevin is well on the way to a bright future in healthcare.
