The halls of Independence Primary School were filled with excitement and creativity as students put their imaginations to the test, constructing elaborate leprechaun traps in anticipation of St. Patrick’s Day. From shimmering rainbows to pots of gold and clever contraptions, young engineers designed and built their own devices in hopes of catching the elusive mischief-maker.

The annual tradition, which blends STEM learning with holiday fun, encourages students to think critically, problem-solve, and work collaboratively. Using household materials, they crafted intricate designs, setting up their traps with the perfect combination of leprechaun lore and engineering ingenuity.

“It’s amazing to see how innovative our students are each year,” said Design Technology Teacher Kerry Morosko. “They use principles of physics, design, and creativity to come up with some truly impressive traps. The best part is seeing their enthusiasm and teamwork in action.”

Regardless of the outcome, the students have already struck gold by engaging in hands-on learning and unleashing their creativity.
