The Independence High School (IHS) Alumni Association, a dedicated group of approximately 240 members spanning classes from the late 1940s to the present, continues its mission of preserving friendships, supporting students, and strengthening ties with its alma mater. This year, the association has once again demonstrated its commitment to the school by donating $2,000 for the purchase of two large display screens.

Each year, the Alumni Association consults with school administrators to determine a meaningful gift that benefits students and enhances the school environment. The new display screens at the high school will be used to share timely and important information with students and visitors, a valuable addition to the school’s communication resources.

Since 2009, the Alumni Association has made annual contributions to the school, with donations growing significantly over time. The first four years saw gifts averaging $350 per year, including items such as decorative IHS floor mats and banners. Over the next five years, donations increased to an average of $800 per year, contributing to projects like Turf the Field, a sports tent canopy, and a speaker program. More recently, the association has given approximately $2,000 annually, funding activity banners for the high school cafeteria, outdoor senior banners during COVID, an Indy backdrop screen and table cover for events, and last year’s contribution of large screen monitors. In total, the association has donated over $10,500 to date.

Beyond financial contributions, the Alumni Association remains actively engaged in supporting students and fostering school spirit. Annual programs include two $1,000 graduating senior awards, recognition of an Alumni of Distinction and Educator of Excellence, and the publication of the Alumni Spectator twice a year. The association also maintains the most complete collection of IHS yearbooks, purchasing a copy for each graduating class while reserving a half-page color congratulatory message in each edition.

The group also organizes beloved traditions such as the Home Days booth and the Annual Breakfast in the Park during Home Days weekend. As a registered nonprofit charity, the association is committed to its mission while remaining nonpolitical.

With a rich history of giving back, the IHS Alumni Association continues to strengthen its legacy of service and school pride. For those interested in learning more or becoming a member, the association welcomes visitors to its website at
