Independence High School students are making a meaningful impact through their life skills class by supporting the Down Syndrome Association of Northeast Ohio (DSANEO) in a unique initiative. The students have been carefully packaging mismatched socks for DSANEO's annual World Down Syndrome Day fundraiser.
World Down Syndrome Day, observed on March 21, carries special significance. The date symbolically represents the triplication of the 21st chromosome, known as trisomy 21, which characterizes Down syndrome. The tradition of wearing mismatched socks on this day has become a widely recognized symbol of support and celebration.
DSANEO offers these special socks for purchase, with proceeds supporting their mission to promote rights, inclusion, and well-being for individuals with Down syndrome throughout schools, communities, and across the globe.
Community members interested in showing their support can purchase these symbolic socks for $3 per pair. Orders can be placed online through DSANEO's website or in person at their office, conveniently located near the Independence post office.
