Independence Local Schools has partnered with Architectural Vision Group, Ltd. (AVG) to conduct a thorough facilities assessment for the district's buildings. This evaluation will provide the Board of Education with current, detailed information about Independence Primary School, Independence Middle School, and the existing bus garage, to support future decision-making. This evaluation comes after a 2019 bond issue for facility improvements was narrowly defeated.

"With our new strategic plan being approved by the Board next month, this partnership represents a crucial step in determining the best path forward for our school facilities," said Superintendent Kelli Cogan. "We're looking forward to working closely with AVG, our parents, and the entire Independence community to develop solutions that will serve our students' needs for years to come."

The comprehensive assessment will evaluate 23 critical building systems, including heating, roofing, electrical systems, security, technology, and structural elements. They will study previously developed plans and reports, review new enrollment projections, and develop multiple master planning options with associated costs for each scenario, ensuring alignment with current codes and standards.

The $18,000 assessment will provide detailed reports for each building, creating a foundation for informed decision-making about the district's facilities future. The assessment will be completed by April 15.

Residents interested in participating in upcoming community discussions should watch for announcements from the district regarding meeting dates and opportunities for involvement.
