In an exciting collaboration between Independence Primary School (IPS) and Cleveland's Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, this year's fourth-grade class will create a mural that will be featured at both the school's annual art show and the iconic museum. Representatives from the Rock Hall, including members of the marketing team, met with art teacher Mike Gruber and fourth-grade students at the museum on January 13 to discuss the vision for this special project.
The mural will debut at the IPS Art Show on March 24 before finding a new home at the Rock Hall, where it will be displayed at various locations within the museum and at events. This unique partnership offers students an opportunity to contribute their artistic talents to one of Cleveland's most celebrated cultural institutions.
"This collaboration with the Rock Hall brings our annual mural tradition to an exciting new level," says art teacher Mike Gruber, who has been organizing the school's spring art show since 2010. Under his guidance, students have previously created murals of the Cleveland Indians (now Guardians), Cavaliers, and Browns, as well as a special memorial piece honoring former IPS music teacher Joan Sidor. The students have also created murals featuring superheroes, zoo animals, a floral display for the school’s outdoor courtyard, and for the City of Independence bicentennial.
This latest project continues the school's tradition of connecting student creativity with community engagement, now extending beyond Independence to reach music fans from around the world who visit the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
