Victor Walchanowicz, a junior at Independence High School, is enrolled in the Cuyahoga Valley Career Center’s (CVCC) Construction Trades program under the mentorship of Paul Yuravak. His older brother, a graduate of the Power Equipment Technology program last year, only had positive experiences to share about CVCC, making it a top consideration for Victor. Ultimately, Victor’s passion for building, creativity, teamwork, and his desire to strengthen his leadership skills made the ConstructionTrades program the perfect choice for him.
“Attending CVCC feels like a break from ‘real’ school. It honestly relieves my stress—how often do people say that about school, right? Pretty cool. Attending this school is such a great opportunity. Mr. Yuravak pushes us to be our best. If you’re a student in Construction Trades, you're going to be a leader—it’s inevitable.”
Victor’s time at CVCC has been marked by meaningful experiences, particularly his involvement in SkillsUSA. Recently elected as a Regional Officer, he’s now aiming for a State Officer position. Among his most memorable moments are participating in Wreaths Across America, visiting the Ohio Statehouse, and attending the SkillsUSA Fall Leadership Conference where he earned his Regional Officer title.
After high school, Victor plans to attend college to earn a degree in construction management or a related field, aiming to become a construction manager. Outside of academics, he plays soccer for Independence High School and enjoys spending time outdoors, fishing, and working on dirt bikes and small vehicles. Victor’s advice for prospective CVCC students is simple: choose a program that excites you and embrace new opportunities and connections—you’ll find plenty at CVCC.
