The National Honor Society at Independence High School (IHS) held its annual induction ceremony on November 25. Principal Michael Janatovich delivered the welcome remarks, highlighting the prestigious standards of the organization. Alexandria Velez, the IHS National Honor Society President, provided the introduction, explaining the meaning and significance of NHS membership.
The newly inducted students were recognized for demonstrating excellence in the Four Pillars of the National Honor Society: Character, Scholarship, Leadership, and Service. Sabrina George outlined the membership qualifications, while Anna Beacher, Joseph Graham, Aaron Zambito, and Keira Donovan spoke on each respective pillar.
This was a student-lead ceremony, in which the National Honor Society officers took the lead. Sabrina George explained the importance of the candles for the NHS and explained how each represents a pillar. Next, Anna Beacher (character), Joe Graham (scholarship), Aaron Zambito (leadership), and Keira Donovan (service) briefly explained what each pillar meant to the NHS.
