The week of November 14-16, a group of Independence High School seniors traveled to New York City. The three-day trip provided students with the opportunity to visit iconic landmarks, including the Empire State Building, 9/11 Memorial and Museum, Rockefeller Center, and a guided tour of the city. Some of the Drama Club students even went to see the musical "Hamilton" on Broadway.
This trip was significant for the seniors, as they had previously missed a class trip to Chicago and Washington, D.C. during their middle school years. "This group of seniors lost their Chicago and DC trip in middle school, and after talking to student leaders last year, they expressed an interest in having a class trip. Ultimately, we made that happen for the students," said Principal Mike Janatovich.
The success of the New York City adventure underscores the school district's commitment to providing experiences that foster student growth and cultural awareness.
