In a touching display of gratitude and community, Independence Primary School (IPS) rolled out the red carpet for its very own veteran families, hosting a special Veterans Day program and breakfast on November 11.
The event kicked off with a warm welcome in the school's cafeteria, where students who have a veteran family member joined their heroic loved ones for breakfast. Meanwhile, the school's Student Council members greeted guests and lent a helping hand throughout the festivities.
As the program commenced in the gymnasium, Student Council students led the Pledge of Allegiance and the i-Pride Pledge. Principal TJ Ebert then took the stage to recognize the veterans in attendance, calling each branch of the military to the front as the Student Council students proudly displayed the corresponding flags.
The program continued with a series of patriotic performances, including "America the Beautiful" by the second graders, "My Country 'Tis of Thee" by the third graders, and a poem and "God Bless America" by the fourth graders. The grand finale featured "The Star-Spangled Banner" led by the combined voices of the students, staff, veterans, and families.
As the program drew to a close, the Student Council representatives accompanied the veterans on a tour of the school, proudly showcasing the student-created mural in the lobby. Meanwhile, the K-Kids distributed thoughtful gifts to the honored guests, capping off the heartwarming celebration.
"Today's event was a true testament to the strong sense of community and appreciation for our nation's heroes that permeates throughout Independence Primary School," said Ebert. "Watching our students come together to express their gratitude and admiration for the veterans in their lives was an incredibly moving experience."
Special thanks to Student Council advisors Lynn Metzger and Jen Krysiak for coordinating the program, as well as Shannon Jakubcak for preparing our students for the musical performances.
