Cuyahoga Valley Career Center Student Spotlight

Independence High School (IHS)  junior Anderson Sears is demonstrating exceptional leadership and time management skills while pursuing his dream of becoming a pediatrician. Currently enrolled in Cuyahoga Valley Career Center's (CVCC) Health Careers program, Sears has distinguished himself as both a dedicated student and class treasurer under the guidance of instructor Patty Valukievic.

"Anderson is doing very well academically and has really stepped up as a leader in the classroom," Valukievic noted. "He's always eager to help other students, which speaks to his passion for helping others."

While maintaining a rigorous academic schedule that includes AP courses, College Credit Plus classes at Tri-C, and his CVCC program, Sears is also a standout athlete on Independence High School's men's volleyball team, which has reached the state competition for two consecutive years. He continues his athletic pursuits year-round with Phoenix Volleyball Club, competing at nationals in Orlando.

At IHS, Sears serves as vice president of the American Sign Language Club and participates in both the Biology Society and PEAT (Preventing Emergencies Among Teens) Club. He also works as a lifeguard for the City of Independence.

To students considering CVCC, Sears offers encouraging advice: "You're not wasting time, even if you don't pursue a career in your program's field. You're figuring out what you do and don't want to do in life while earning school credit - why wouldn't you come here."
