Independence Primary School (IPS) is continuing to build on the success of its Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) program, a school-wide initiative designed to cultivate positive behaviors and enhance the learning environment for all students.
At the heart of the PBIS program is the belief that recognizing and rewarding positive behaviors can help students develop intrinsic motivation. This approach uses tokens, positive reinforcement, and incentives to encourage students to exhibit behaviors that contribute to a more productive and harmonious school atmosphere.
Central to the program is the "I-Pride" chant, which encapsulates the core values of the school:
"I am an I-Pride Kid, I'm Positive, Respectful, Dependable, Empowered.
I am an I-Pride Kid!"
This chant serves as a daily reminder of the behavior expectations at IPS, creating a common framework that all students can understand and aspire to meet.
Building on last year's success, IPS will continue to host quarterly "dojo parties" for students who accumulate 100 dojo points. These celebrations serve as both a reward for consistent positive behavior and a motivational tool for students who may be struggling to meet the criteria. The school hopes that this system will encourage positive behavioral changes across the student body.
New for this year, the PBIS program will place increased emphasis on documenting various behaviors. This data-driven approach aims to enhance the school's ability to address behavioral issues effectively and tailor interventions to meet individual student needs.
"At IPS, we prioritize recognizing the positives and celebrating our great students," said Principal TJ Ebert. "Our PBIS program is all about creating a positive, supportive environment where every student can thrive."
Through this comprehensive approach, Independence Primary School is demonstrating its commitment to fostering a positive school culture, one where students are empowered to take pride in their behavior and academic achievements.
