Kaitlyn Jones, a senior at Independence High School, is currently enrolled in CVCC’s Health Careers program under the instruction of Patty Valukievic. Kaitlyn's journey began when she relocated from Detroit to the area during her freshman year of high school. Initially apprehensive about transitioning to CVCC after just two years at a new school, her experience at CVCC has surpassed her expectations, and she's grateful for her decision to attend.
Prior to joining CVCC, Kaitlyn had her sights set on a career in birth and delivery or the trauma unit. However, her perspective shifted during her time in the Health Careers program as she discovered a multitude of job opportunities and endless possibilities within the field.
Reflecting on her transformation, Kaitlyn acknowledges her previous close-mindedness, which has evolved into openness to new experiences. She credits the program for teaching her patience, resilience, and the importance of perseverance. Additionally, she values the diverse interactions with peers from various school districts and backgrounds. Kaitlyn's favorite aspect of the program is the clinicals, where she gains invaluable real-world experience. She eagerly anticipates the opportunity to assist those in need and is excited to envision her future career in action.
Post-graduation, Kaitlyn aspires to become a travel advanced practical nurse (APN) and ultimately dreams of owning a hospital that provides shelter for the homeless. Mrs. Valukievic, Kaitlyn's instructor, commends her growth from junior to senior year.
Beyond her academic pursuits, Kaitlyn has recently obtained a job at Marymount Hospital and has a passion for fashion and hairstyling, and has actively participated in dance, cheer, and volleyball. She encourages others to pursue their goals relentlessly and reminds them of their inherent worth and value. Keep shining, Kaitlyn!
