Independence High School's Drama Club presented "Mean Girls: High School Version" on March 15 & 16 at 7 p.m. in the IHS auditorium.
"Mean Girls: High School Version" was the "fetch" musical based on the popular 2004 movie written by Tina Fey, Jeff Richmond and Nell Benjamin, with a new musical movie that had just recently hit the box office.
Cady Heron (Callia Shumay, Senior) may have grown up on an African savanna, but nothing prepared her for the wild and vicious ways of her strange new home: suburban Illinois. The show followed how this naïve newbie rose to the top of the popularity pecking order by taking on The Plastics, a trio of lionized frenemies led by the charming but ruthless Regina George (Dani Buyansky, Senior). But when Cady and her friends, Damian (Matthew Hébert, Senior) and Janis (Julia Deblock, Senior) devised a "Revenge Party" to end Regina’s reign, Cady learned the hard way that you can’t cross a Queen Bee without getting stung.
The powerhouse cast was rounded out with Regina's Plastics: Gretchen (Matilda Averre, Sophomore) and Karen (Avery Vilcheck, Junior) and Cady's crush, Aaron (Jack Ottaviano, Junior).
Mean Girls: High School Version brought together not only the students in the cast, but the largely student run stage crew, tech crew, orchestra and costume crew.
